3 creative photo ideas while recording a podcast

"I am Aduro" photography podcast. Very nice dudes, really!

If you like to do creative work, then you better fill up your creative “gas tank” regularly. Otherwise you won’t get anywhere on your journey.
I just have been guest in a nice photography podcast. It’s Al del Degans “I am Aduro” podcast. Co-Host is Andrew Bolton. If you are not subscribed to it, then stop reading now, go there now and subscribe. It might bring you more than reading this article.

During the podcast they came up with a bunch of links to websites with creative photography work. We briefly discussed every of these site. We were also talking about how photographers can look at creative photos of other photographers in order to fill up their creative “gas tank”. This is an exercise that is mandatory.

And now, after we are done with our show, it strikes me big time that during the show I did exactly that: I filled up my pool of creative ideas. I particularly feel that looking at the creative work that THEY found somehow inspires me much more than the stuff that I MYSELF find when surfing the web. Maybe that is a sort of “the grass is always greener on the other side” experience, but I feel pretty strongly about it. I feel that there is something special about looking at a selection of creative photos that someone else has curated for me.

Let me give you some examples of the type of ideas that I got:

Creative Idea #1

In the show we discussed a selection of black and white portraits, which sparked an idea in me. I’d like to shoot a series of portraits on which I use a specific piece of fabric. The fabric would be used in order to simulate that the model is wearing a hoodie. Actually every model in the series would wear the same hoodie (maybe in different ways).

Creative Idea #2

We looked at an online fashion magazine. It is presented on a website, which allows everybody to create an online magazine. My idea was that this would allow me to present my wedding portfolio in magazine style. That would be more exciting than the typical gallery website. Such a change might have a positive impact on business.

Creative Idea #3

We looked at a very cool flickr image of an outdoor diving board at a lake. I had the idea that I should ask our local public open air pool for shooting permission in winter. I’d love to do a fashion shoot there after the first snow came down. I guess over there the snow is going to look totally displaced which might make a fashion photo totally interesting. Even for myself it would be the first time that I see an big outdoor pool covered with snow.

This is just 3 of the ideas that came to me during the podcast. I am sure it was beneficial for me that I did not have to search for creative input, instead it was spoon fed to me by the hosts.

I suggest you get your scoop of creativity yourself now. Listen to the podcast and check what ideas come up in your mind while looking at the pages that we discuss in the show.

I wish you good light!
